What Size Grow Bags Should I Use Indoors?

One of the most common questions we get asked from our indoor growers is which size grow bags to use. Most of our indoor growers are growing cannabis and using LED lighting in a tent.

Let’s look at a common setup and one we recommend for beginners if they have the space available — The 4 Foot By 4 Foot Tent.

If you look around instagram you’re going to see some of the best growers in the world using a simple 4X4 setup. You will also notice growers crushing the grow with 1 Gallon grow bags and some using 100 Gallons. The 1 Gallon Grower is probably growing a lot of plants in a small space using something like Sea of Green. The 100 Gallon grower is probably growing with living soil and an automatic watering system. The bottom line is there are growing styles and growing systems for different situations and they vary a lot.

The choices are overwhelming for most beginners.

The GOOD News.

Most growers use a similar system. Especially when starting out.

The most common size grow bags we sell for indoor growers are 3 Gallons and 5 Gallons. It’s very common for our auto flower growers to use 3 Gallon Grow Bags and for our photoperiod growers to use 5 Gallon Grow Bags. The reason for photoperiod growers using a larger size is with photoperiod plants growers tend to train more and extend the vegetative period for larger plants.

IF YOU’D LIKE TO KNOW HOW WE DO IT AT HONOR, HERE IS OUR FLOW:

  1. START SEEDS IN OUR SEED STARTER MAT (Usually 2-3 days)

  2. TRANSFER SEEDS INTO OUR 1/4 GALLON FOR 30 DAYS

  3. TRANSFER INTO OUR 1.5 GALLON FOR 30+ DAYS DURING THE TRAINING PHASE

  4. TRANSFER INTO OUR 5 GALLON GROW BAG OR A GROW BED 1 WEEK BEFORE THE BLOOM PHASE

At the end of the day, you want to ask yourself how long you’re going to keep your photoperiod plants in the vegetative stage. The longer you veg, and the larger you want to grow the plant should be a major factor in what size of grow bag you use.

One additional thing to consider is plant count. If you have a plant count, you want to maximize your space and sometimes that means using a larger bag and having a longer vegetative stage.

We love helping our customers figure out the best grow bag or grow bed setup. If you’re confused or just want to make sure you have the best setup we’re happy to help.
